CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
CranioSacral Therapy was developed by Dr. John Upledger, D.O., O.M.M., as a result of extensive clinical research which he directed at Michigan State University over a period of 10 years in the 1970s and 80s. It is also based on the earlier work of Dr. William Sutherland, D.O., who is considered the "Father of Cranial Osteopathy".
The craniosacral system is one of the fundamental systems of the body. It consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid which surround and protect the brain and spinal chord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum. or tailbone area.
Since this system influences the development and performance fo the brain and spinal cord, any imbalance or restriction in it could potenially cause any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. These problems could include chronic pain of the neck, back and hips, visual difficulties, scoliosis, motor-coordination impairments, learning disabilities and other health challenges.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle method of detection and correction that encourages your own natural healing mechanisms to dissipate these negative effects of stress on you central nervous system. You will also benefit from better overall health and resistance to disease.
